the science of taste
Taste goes far beyond sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami. For bartenders, it’s the foundation of everything — yet few are ever taught how it truly works.
That’s why we partnered with world-renowned flavor scientist Dr. Arielle Johnson to develop a specialized analysis that offers a clear, science-backed understanding of how each of us experiences taste. The result? Eight different taste archetypes that offer comprehensive tools as insightful as they are practical.
Introducing The Taste Collective Tour by 1800 Tequila — an immersive, hands-on workshop where guests receive their own taste archetype. Together with expert-led master classes and curated city guides, we’re redefining what it means to push the boundaries of taste. Explore the tour. Expand your taste.
The taste analysis
Our five-question taste analysis is an exclusive component of our in-person events. Designed in partnership with flavor scientist Dr. Arielle Johnson, the test provides a holistic, comprehensive and scientifically robust view of how you experience taste. Once completed, you’ll receive one of eight taste archetypes that help to harness all the elements of your own unique taste.

A TEQUILA MADE FOR BARTENDERS
BUILT FROM COMMUNITY
Just like the hospitality industry that helps bartenders flourish — our agave is grown & cultivated by a collective of real people on family-owned fields in the tequila region of Jalisco, Mexico.
Heritage
The name 1800 honors the turn of the 19th century, when tequila prohibition was lifted in Mexico and our family received a license to produce, transport and share our tequila with the world. Our name serves as a constant reminder of our role in making tequila what it is today.
PUSHING BOUNDARIES OF TASTE
Our Añejo Cristalino, that’s uniquely charcoal filtered and finished in port wine casks, is just one of the many variants of 1800 that pushes the boundaries of taste.

Taste-Defining Tequila
Since 1967, a singular driving force has guided 1800 Tequila: push the boundaries of taste. We are on a mission to craft bold experiments and spark cultural transformations.
Before us, tequila was bound to sourcing, fermentation and distillation. Then we became the world’s first premium tequila and world’s first añejo tequila and changed the entire industry. With our introduction of añejo tequila, we created an entirely new space within taste. Every day, we find new ways to raise the bar, all in service of our ultimate goal: helping people find the best taste, in tequila and in life.
